Ans. (a) System software:- System software performs the basic functions of a computer. It is inbuilt and control the overall working of a computer system.

(b) Application software:- Application software are task-specific programs. Tux Paint, Notepad, WordPad, Paint and computer games are all application software. 

2.Every computer must have an operating system to run the other programs. Without an operating system, a computer is of no use. Why?

Ans. Because Operating System is a type of system software that runs the computer and manages all the input, output and storage tasks. It acts as a bridge between the computer and the user.

3. What is the difference between a file and a folder?
Ans. File:-  A File is the collection of information.
         Folder:- A folder is a collection of files.

4. What is a desktop wallpaper?
Ans. Desktop wallpaper is the image that fills the background of your computer screen .

5. What do you find on the right side of the Start menu?
Ans. The Start button shows all the apps installed on a system. All the apps appear in the alphabetical  order. While the right-hand column provides access to My Documents, My Pictures, My Music and other special folders.
